We chat with Mansfield’s London 2012 athletes at their homecoming party. Listen here…
The Market Place filled with people cheering and waving flags on Tuesday evening as four of Mansfield’s five London 2012 athletes appeared on stage.
They won seven medals between them during the Olympics and Paralympics:
Ollie Hynd, 17.
Won gold in the SM8 200m individual Medley at the Paralympics and had a post box in Kirkby painted gold in his honour. He also won silver in the S8 Men’s 400m Freestyle and bronze in the S8 100m backstroke.
Rebecca Adlington, 23
She needs no introduction after her success at both the Beijing and London games. Won two bronze medals in London; in the Women’s 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle.
Charlotte Henshaw
She won silver in the SB6 100m Breaststroke and was just a few hundredths of a second off a gold.
Sam Hynd
Brother of Ollie. He won bronze in the S8 400m Freestyle. He was unable to be at the homecoming even in Mansfield because of another commitment.
Chris Adcock
The Team GB Olympic badminton player will also be taking part. He and his partner narrowly missed out to their German opponents in the mixed doubles.
